This is our Airbnb entry

This place is close to nowhere. The idea is to escape! There are pubs , restaurant and shops in Plockton if that is what you seek.. You’ll love my place because of the views, the escape, and the chance to experience something different on a budget.. The Pent Hooses are good for couples and solo adventurers, but it will only accommodate 2 people. There is no electricity and you will need to bring sleeping bags and a torch.

The space

This is a WOODEN TENT. Instead of sleeping on the ground under canvas we give you a covered mattress on to which you can put your sleeping bags. The "hoose" is in a field on a farm which has sheep, goats, llamas, racoons, ducks, hens, rabbits, owls and a donkey. They roam freely around the farm and d can come in to the Racoon pen and feed them with one of us.

Guest access

When you arrive at Craig Highland Farm you drive down the track past our Thatch Cottage and one of our wooden lodges. At the bottom of this track is our white painted cottage with green trim. If you stop there on arrival we will show you in and also where to find the toilet and communal room. In this room there is a store of dvds for guests to borrow, washing machines and tumble driers again for guest use and a kettle, microwave and 'fridge for use of glampers. In the 'fridge there is often beer, butter, milk etc for you to help yourself to. If used up you can ask at the house for more. We also have fresh farm eggs for sale.

Interaction with guests

We am based in the white house but will be out on the farm feeding and cleaning the animals, and cleaning cottages for good parts of the day. If you ring the house bell I can usually hear it and come back to the house.

Other things to note

The penthouse does not lock (I have not found a tent that does either!) so please do not leave valuables in it. We have a very low crime rate locally, but it makes sense to take important things with you when you go out.

The neighbourhood

Craig Highland Farm is located in Plockton, United Kingdom

They published the local crime statistics a few years ago and 54 crimes had been committed, 53 of them by the same man "drunk and disorderly" and one by a confused dementia patient who walked off with an umbrella! It is a quiet, peaceful location which we enjoy. We could "update" our lodges and camping facilities but we fear it would attract a different clientele which we would rather avoid. Our best guests have been coming for over 30 years to enjoy the walking, sailing, climbing and just relaxation they get from this lovely area. We have had people marry on the beach and their offspring got engaged to other guests offspring that they met whilst on holiday as children. A home from home for so many people who are now classed more as friends than guests and we would not want to change this. Thus if you would class your self as "fussy" or "particular" or have not gone camping under canvas before, think twice about what you book as this may not be for you. There is no electricity in the "hoose" and the toilet is a walk away, you may encounter sheep or llamas (or the tell tale signs that one has been there!) on your way and this, whilst normal for wild campers, may not appeal to everyone.

Getting around

Public transport is very poor in this area. There are three trains a day to and from Inverness, our closest train station is Duncraig which is a request stop. The bus between Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Uig on Skye arrives about 3 times a day in Kyle of Lochalsh which is 7 miles away. The nearest supermarket, bank etc is also in Kyle of Lochalsh.

A beautiful remote location on a highland farm. A warm welcome from Patti, my first experience of glamping and I would certainly like to visit again. Thank you Patti.

Absolute must for a Highlands adventure. Patti is lovely, the setting is incredible, waking up to that view was a highlight of our trip. Hut was warm and comfortable and the animals just made it. Especially feeding the raccoons!!! Definitely recommend!!!

What a wonderful place! We stayed on a snowy(!) April evening so there were lambs, baby chicks and all the lovely signs of spring. It's the perfect place for animal lovers. Only thing I would say is that we ended up to a cottage on her farm as it was so cold (afforementioned snow!) so do come prepared for all the Scottish elements.

Fantastic wee Glamping experience with a serene atmosphere, amongst beautiful animals. The Glamping Pent Hoose is very hard to describe as it's a real treat for all the senses, photos &/or my and others descriptions cannot do it justice. If your looking for somewhere a little different to chill and relax in the beautiful west coast of Scotland that isn't pretentious, this is it. The beach is a 5 minute walk. We are planning our next return trip already and we have just arrived home.
